Being president of BuffTeks has been one of the most incredible experiences of my time at WTAMU. I am truly grateful to the faculty and staff advisors who have been so knowledgeable and supportive throughout this journey. Through this organization I have grown not just as a developer but as a leader, a collaborator, and a teammate. Working alongside a real community of passionate students to develop software projects from start to finish has been a tremendous learning experience. If you are looking for a place to build real skills, work on meaningful projects, and connect with people who share your passion for technology, BuffTeks is all of that and more, I am truly blessed to have been a part of it.

Serving as Technical Lead for BuffTeks has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time at WTAMU. What started as a chance to sharpen my own skills turned into something much bigger. Designing internal tools that the org got the chance to use, collaborating with a room full of people who genuinely care about what they build, and growing as a leader in ways I honestly didn’t see coming. There’s something different about working alongside people who are passionate about technology for its own sake. The conversations, the problem-solving, all of it pushed me to level up technically and personally. If you want to do real work, build real things, and find your people in the process, BuffTeks is where that happens.

Bufftek has been a fantastic experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to apply the skills I’ve learned in class to real-world problems and work alongside others to develop effective software solutions. Through this, I gained hands-on experience with skills that are difficult to practice on your own. Some key areas of growth include working with other developers on the same project, managing tasks and branches to avoid conflicting changes, and testing and reviewing pull requests to ensure high-quality merges. I also learned how to collaborate with team members to choose the best technologies for each project and pitch a piece of software using a prototype to stakeholders. The problems I faced throughout the project ranged from finding solutions to everyday inconveniences like finding parking, to developing software for community support. This gave me practice in every phase of developing software from early research and planning, to designing the structure of the application, to building the application, to further refinement and improvement on the application. Overall, it’s been a great experience that I’d recommend to anyone wanting to get into software development or similar fields after graduation.
